En 1976, après un tournage à l'hôtel Pulitzer, je suis sorti avec Rory Gallagher pendant une semaine et j'ai ensuite enregistré trois concerts. Un mec très sympa et un guitariste talentueux. Nous avons également organisé un tournage en coulisses d'un de ses concerts. Bref que de beaux souvenirs Très beau, et surtout un honneur, que tant d'années plus tard (parce que 44 ans sonne comme il y a si longtemps) la maison de disques et ses héritiers aient demandé la permission d'utiliser cette image pour la sortie d'un album ''Best Of '', y compris des enregistrements inédits.

Govert de Roos - In 1976, after a shoot at the Pulitzer Hotel, I went out with him for a week and then recorded three concerts. A very nice guy and a talented guitarist. We also organized a backstage photo shoot of one of his concerts. In short, only beautiful memories. Very beautiful, and above all an honor, that so many years later (because 44 years sounds like such a long time ago) the record company and his heirs asked permission to use this shoot for the release of a worldwide Best Of album, including recordings never before available.

Je vous présente Colm Henry avec cette photo prise au Gaiety Theatre de Dublin en 1987, alors que Rory répétait son album « Defender ».
Quelle superbe photo ! Je pense que Lauren Alex O'Hagan a utilisé une autre photo de cette séance pour la couverture de son livre « Rory Gallagher - The Later Years ».
Colm Henry est né en Irlande le 4 juillet 1953 et a reçu son premier appareil photo à 11 ans. Encouragé par quelques mentors photographes durant son adolescence, il a senti à 20 ans qu'il devait gagner sa vie en faisant ce qu'il semblait faire de mieux. Au départ, il était conscient qu'aucun photographe en Irlande ne semblait vraiment intéressé par la nouvelle génération de musiciens qui émergeait dans les années 1970.
Il a rapidement trouvé sa voie, car les musiciens étaient faciles à approcher et ravis d'être photographiés. Il a gagné leur confiance et a développé un style particulier. Finalement, il a remporté quelques prix !

I present to you Colm Henry with this photo taken at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin in 1987, while Rory was rehearsing his album "Defender." What a great photo! I believe Lauren Alex O'Hagan used another photo from this session for the cover of her book "Rory Gallagher - The Letter Years."
Colm Henry was born in Ireland on 4 July 1953 and got his first camera at 11 years of age. With encouragement from a few photography mentors during his teens he felt at 20 that he should try to earn his living at what he seemed to be doing best. Initially he was aware that no photographer in Ireland seemed very interested in the new generation of musicians that were emerging in the 1970s.
He quickly found his niche as musicians were easy to connect with and delighted to be photographed. He became trusted by them and developed a certain style. Eventually a few awards !
These early photos which were more instinctive he feels are among his best work."

Gary Heery
One of the stunning photos taken by Gary Heery, an Australian photographer, during the sessions. In 1978, of course, this was not a “photoshopped” photo. Only the good (and slightly crazy) idea of putting a lighted Christmas wreath around Rory’s neck and using slow speed and maybe a flash will explain these strange rays of light. This session will led to 'Photo Finish' cover album
L'une des superbes photos prises par Gary Heery, un photographe australien, lors des séances. En 1978, bien sûr, il ne s'agissait pas d'une photo retouchée. Seule l'idée géniale (et un peu folle) de mettre une couronne de Noël illuminée autour du cou de Rory, d'utiliser une vitesse lente et peut-être un flash, expliquerait ces étranges rayons de lumière. Cette séance donnera naissance à l'album de couverture « Photo Finish ».
Les plus observateurs d’entre vous auront noté l’utilisation pour la pochette de l’album d’une photo réalisée par Gary Heery et issue d’une sessions remontant à 1978 et ayant servie à la pochette de Photo Finish. la parenté saute aux yeux : même lumière, même tenue, même strap de guitare !
The most observant among you will have noticed the use for the album cover of 'BBC Sessions' a photo taken by Gary Heery and taken from a session dating back to 1978 and used for the cover of 'Photo Finish'. The similarity is obvious: same light, same outfit, same guitar strap!

During the same period, Danny Clifford had the privilege of following Rory Gallagher's British tour, which gave rise to intimate films such as the one above who served as inner sleeve from 'Photo Finish' album.

Michael Putland
Michael Putland (27 May 1947 – 18 November 2019) was an English music photographer, known for photographing musicians like Rory Gallagher in the 1970s.
In 1972 Michael Putland visited Rory and the band at Marquee Studios where he was recording the ‘Blueprint’ album. Michael sadly passed away. He and Rory were very close, Michael shot Rory throughout the 1970s onstage, in the studio and for album covers.
Michael Putland (27 mai 1947 – 18 novembre 2019) était un photographe musical anglais, connu pour avoir photographié des musiciens comme Rory Gallagher dans les années 1970.
En 1972, Michael Putland rendit visite à Rory et au groupe aux studios Marquee où il enregistrait l'album « Blueprint ». Michael est malheureusement décédé. Lui et Rory étaient très proches ; Michael a photographié Rory tout au long des années 1970 sur scène, en studio et pour des pochettes d'album'.
