Fender Telecaster 1966

J'ai un préférence particulière pour cette Fender Telecaster de 1966. Peut-être est-ce parce que c'est la plus belle photo de Rory que j'aie jamais prise !?!...
C'était une sensation à la fois étrange et douce-amère de me trouver devant cette guitare. Je me souviens parfaitement du jour où j'ai pris la photo, car j'étais juste devant la scène et aucun agent de sécurité n'était là pour m'arrêter.
I had a special feeling about this 1966 Fender Telecaster. Maybe because it's the most beautiful photo of Rory I've ever taken!?!...
It was a very strange and bittersweet feeling to be in front of this particular guitar. I of course remembered the day I took the photo because I was right in front of the stage and no security guards were in sight to stop me.
Cette guitare a été achetée par Rory à Londres pour l'enregistrement du deuxième album de Taste, « On The Boards », sorti en 1970. On voit Rory jouer de cette guitare pour la première fois, avec sa première finition blanche, à Copenhague début 1970. Il l'a ensuite utilisée lors du concert de Taste au festival de l'île de Wight en août 1970. Elle est devenue l'une de ses guitares principales sur scène, notamment pour le jeu au slide.
Dans une longue interview accordée à Vivian Campbell pour le magazine Guitar For The Practicing Musician, en août 1991, Rory a déclaré à propos de cette guitare : « Une Telecaster blanche de 1963 (sic). Le micro chevalet a été rebobiné. Elle a été repeinte ; je l'ai décapée jusqu'au bois naturel, puis j'ai essayé d'obtenir la finition la plus crème naturelle possible, mais elle est ressortie plutôt blanche. C'est une très bonne Telecaster. »
This guitar was purchased by Rory in London, for recording Taste's second album 'On The Boards', released in 1970.
The first time Rory is seen playing this guitar, with its first white finish, is in Copenhagen in early 1970. He then famously used it for Taste's appearance at the Isle Of Wight Festival in August 1970. It became one of Rory's main guitars for live work, especially for slide playing.
In a lengthy interview with Vivian Campbell for the magazine Guitar For The Practicing Musician, August 1991, Rory said of this guitar: « A white '63 (sic) Telecaster. The lead pickup was rewound. It was repainted; I stripped it down to its natural wood, and then I tried to get the natural creme finish that I could get, but it turned out kind of white. I used that with Taste as well. It's a very good Tele. »
Rory explained: « I'm a Strat player because of the three pickups, the out of phase thing as well - even on my Stratocaster I've neutered the middle tone control. I think probably the ideal guitar would be like a Telecaster lead pickup on a Stratocaster body... I turned against the rhythm pickup on my Telecaster, years ago, and I put two Strat pickups in the middle and rhythm position, but then lately I've reverted back to the way they were. »
