Rory's statue was unveiled in 2010 in Ballyshannon, Ireland, in the presence of Monica Gallagher, his mother, and Donald, his younger brother.

For those who are still unaware, David Annand is a Scottish sculptor who created the statue of Rory Gallagher on display at Ballyshannon, Ireland since 2010.

David Annand would have declared: ''I put my heart & soul in making this Statue to Rory. Please look after it''.

Interview

David could you tell our visitors how it happened to create Rroy's statue in Ballyshannon?

I was staying in a Bed and Breakfast in Bellaghy in Northern Ireland to be present at the unveiling of the Seamus Heaney sculpture, The Turf Man, when I got a call from Public Arts Donegal in Ballyshannon. I was shortlisted for the commission to make Rory and then won!

I was born the same year as Rory (1948) and so I knew his work.  I admired it but preferred the Rolling Stones and other musicians.

Having researched Rory for the commission I grew to love his work especially his live recordings. 

Here are some of the photos I took the weekend of the unveiling of Rory's statue. There's also a photo of Johnny Gallagher playing in front of the statue.

It was great commission and I loved going to Ballyshannon.

The day it was unveiled I never had to buy a pint of Guinness, they were all bought for me!

Pour ceux qui l'ignorent encore, David Annand est un sculpteur écossais auteur de la statue de Rory Gallagher exposée à Ballyshannon, Irlande depuis 2010..

David Ammand aurait déclaré : « J'ai mis tout mon cœur et toute mon âme dans la réalisation de cette statue à Rory. Veuillez en prendre soin. »

Je séjournais dans une chambre d'hôtes à Bellaghy, en Irlande du Nord, pour assister à l'inauguration de la sculpture de Seamus Heaney, « The Turf Man », lorsque j'ai reçu un appel de Public Arts Donegal à Ballyshannon.
J'avais été présélectionné pour la réalisation de la sculpture de Rory et j'ai finalement été choisi !
Je suis né la même année que Rory (1948) et connaissais donc son œuvre. Je l'admirais, mais je préférais les Rolling Stones et d'autres musiciens.
Voici une partie des photos que j'ai prises le week-end de l'inauguration de la statue de Rory. On y trouve également une photo de Johnny Gallagher jouant devant la statue.
C'était une commande formidable et j'ai adoré aller à Ballyshannon.
Le jour de l'inauguration, je n'ai pas eu à payer une seule pinte de Guinness : elles étaient toutes offertes !
